The Bonn English Singers
Originally "The British Embassy Choir", the choir continued working in Bonn after the British Embassy moved to Berlin. The choir was directed for the first 2 years by composer and conductor Stephen Harrap and since January 2001, jazz musician and conductor Fraser Gartshore.
We specialise in English language choral music, both sacred and secular. The choir performs regularly in and around Bonn and is famous for its traditional Christmas carol services and concerts.
The choir rehearses every Friday at 7pm in St. Michael in Rheinbacher Strasse in Bonn-Weststadt and interested singers are welcome to audition. Previous choir experience and a trained voice are preferred but not essential. We have an international membership - not all our members are English native speakers. However, the rehearsals take place in English, so it helps if you understand the language a bit. If you are interested, feel free to contact us.
Our programme includes many sacred and secular works by English composers. In addition to our traditional Christmas Carol services, we performed a concert in Bonn's Lutherkirche involving the Serenade to Music and Shakespeare Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams. This programme, together with Songs from the Bavarian Highlands by Edward Elgar was repeated in May 2012 in a concert at the University of Cologne hosted by the University's Jazz Choir.
We are looking for new members! If you’d like to join us, feel free to come along to a rehearsal and try us out! For more information on becoming a member - see our Joining the Choir page.
